Are you really sure you write code better than Opus, or better than the latest GPT? Are you honestly convinced that, given enough context about the project and everything underneath it, you’re better at writing code than that thing? Are we really so sure we’re smarter, folks?
No. We’re in denial, and we’re being ridiculous. Anyone who isn’t willing to admit that this stuff is smarter than us, and that with the right context it runs circles around us on pretty much any cognitive task, is in denial.
Denial pays my bills
I’ll tell you something more: over the coming years I actually profit from the fact that you’re all in denial. Because I go around teaching companies the methodologies for using these things well, for getting the most leverage out of them, for writing as little code as possible, for delegating as much as possible while keeping control. Because that has become our job. It’s a job of delegation and control.
Get out of the loop
Get out of the loop, folks. I empathize, I really do. We wrote code for 20 years. It’s a passion. We sweated over it, we poured ourselves into it. But get out of the loop. You’re in denial.
This thing is a beast. It runs rings around you. You can be the best programmer in the world, and it still runs rings around you.
