Hi folks, I wanted to give you a piece of information. And this information depends on the logarithm of the probability of what I’m saying.

If what I say is certain, you already know it. Like silence: the probability is one, and the information it carries is zero.

If instead it’s an improbable event, like, say, I open my eyes and out comes a little monkey juggling three balls while singing, well, that’s a wildly improbable event, 0.00-something. The logarithm of 0.0000 comes out as a huge negative number. There’s a minus sign in front of it, and the information goes up.

On top of probability, information is built. On top of information, understanding is built, and intelligence is built. Other forms of intelligence, in my opinion, are all up for debate.
